Recently completed reading the book by Sword and Fire by Sean McGlynn. I found this book interesting, I also found it a little dry and academic. In discussing atrocities in Europe of the Middle Ages, Mr. McGlynn not only looks at what happened on the battlefield, but the attitudes of the church and population towards crime and punishment. He also looks at the development of the codes of Chivalry.
